*Salomon Maimon & The Essay on Transcendental Philosophy - A One Day
Conference*

To mark the recent publication of the first English translation of Salomon
Maimon's *Essay on Transcendental Philosophy *(1790), a one day conference
on Maimon is being held on Thursday 19 August 2010 at Manchester
Metropolitan University, England.

Maimon's *Essay *was a crucial resource for Deleuze in developing a
philosophy of difference in *Difference & Repetition*. In particular Deleuze
makes use of Maimon's rethinking of Kant's Ideas beyond a merely regulative
role, his attempt to establish an internal genetic relation of concept
(determination) to intuition (determinable), and his importation of the
calculus into transcendental philosophy via the identification of the matter
of sensation with differentials (= noumena). We hope that the appearance of
Maimon in English translation will lead to a renewed examination of
Deleuze's relation to his philosophy.

Registration for the conference is free and more details and a registration
form are available at:
