Aztec sacrifice seems closer to a modern notion of production - 'fill the
quota'. Sacrifice in WW1 sounds like the means to realise the Symbol, the
Empire. Sacrifice in today's conflict looks like the means for shedding the
Symbol, 'Justice', in favour of the relative 'freedom' of fighting (freedom
until you stop).
